1. Your work stays on your Mac
SilkySnip processes screenshots, annotations, and OCR text locally on your Mac. We do not receive or upload your capture content.
You decide when to copy, save, export, or share your work. Exports are stored where you choose, and any cloud folder you select is governed by that provider's privacy practices.
2. App Store purchases and the free trial
All features are available during the free 30-day trial. The trial does not renew or charge automatically. When it ends, creating new work requires the optional one-time Full Unlock; existing work remains available.
Apple's App Store and StoreKit handle authentication, payment, and purchase verification. SilkySnip does not create a separate account or collect your payment details or Apple Account password.
3. Trial time checks
While the trial is active, SilkySnip contacts our time service when the app opens and after your Mac wakes. This confirms the trial period and does not include captures, annotations, OCR text, Apple transaction details, or a persistent device identifier.
Like any HTTPS request, our hosting service may receive an IP address and standard request logs. If this check cannot finish, new capture and editing wait for verification; existing work remains accessible. Verified Full Unlock works offline.
4. Optional diagnostics
Diagnostics are off by default. If you enable Share anonymous crash and hang reports in Settings > Permissions, Sentry receives crash, hang, and handled-error reports with limited technical information, such as the app and macOS version, error codes, and sanitized app-flow context.
We remove Sentry's installation identity and do not attach screenshots, notes, OCR text, payment details, or an account profile. Automatic session, network, and file-access tracking are disabled. You can turn diagnostics off at any time.
5. Permissions, storage, and security
Screen Recording access is requested only to capture the screen. You can decline it and still use Settings and view existing work. Keyboard shortcuts do not need Accessibility permission, and SilkySnip does not request it.
Captures, notes, preferences, and restoration history are stored locally in the app sandbox and normal local files. You can clear cached history from the app. Launch at Login is optional and changes only when you choose it.
We use the macOS sandbox, local file protections, HTTPS for trial checks and diagnostics, and App Store transaction validation. No system can guarantee absolute security, so please also protect your Mac account and chosen export locations.
6. No advertising or cross-app tracking
SilkySnip does not use advertising networks, behavioral analytics, or cross-app tracking. This policy covers the macOS app; website use is covered by the Silky Apple website privacy policy.
