1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how SilkySnip by Silky Apple Technologies handles your data. SilkySnip is an offline-first screenshot and visual intelligence tool. We built it with a "private-by-design" philosophy.
2. Data Collection and Usage
SilkySnip operates primarily offline on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your screenshots, text extractions (OCR), annotations, or any other personal data on our servers.
All Optical Character Recognition (OCR) processing is performed locally on your device using the native on-device frameworks provided by macOS or Windows. Your images and extracted text never leave your computer.
Licensing: The Windows edition uses Microsoft Store license information tied to your Microsoft account and does not send a SilkySnip license key or hardware identifier to our licensing server. The macOS edition may cryptographically hash device identifiers solely for license binding and verification with the checkout-related licensing service.
Telemetry & Audit: The app collects timestamped application events (such as saves, exports, and errors) locally. Crash reports are generated locally and you may choose to manually email them to us.
3. Where Data Is Stored
All screenshots, temporary buffers, and saved annotations are stored locally in your device's secure file system. Local cache files containing screenshots and metadata are AES-GCM encrypted using a key derived from your license signature. We do not use cloud synchronization or third-party storage providers for your captures.
Audit logs are stored securely at `~/Library/Application Support/SilkySnip/audit.log`, and crash reports are saved to `~/Library/Logs/SilkyApple/SilkySnip/Crashes`.
4. Third-Party Services and Permissions
The Windows edition connects to Microsoft Store services for trial, purchase, license, and update status. The macOS edition may connect to its licensing service. We do not integrate SilkySnip with third-party advertising or behavioral analytics networks.
Permissions: The macOS edition requires Screen Recording access solely to capture screenshots for the overlay preview, and may request Accessibility access for global hotkeys. The Windows edition uses Windows screen capture APIs and is installed through the Microsoft Store.
5. Security
By keeping all data and processing strictly on your device, SilkySnip eliminates the risks associated with cloud data breaches. We rely on macOS's built-in sandbox and security mechanisms to protect your data locally.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our maximum liability arising out of or in connection with your use of the application, regardless of the cause of action, will not exceed the amount you paid for the service.
